Places and World Map
Geography becomes useful when places have the right scale and entities have meaningful positions.
The world map is not decoration. Markers can link to Codex entities, so the story, images, and publishing flow can use the same geography.
Region or Location?
A Region is a large territory such as an empire, domain, frontier, continent, or biome.
A Location is a concrete site where scenes can happen, such as a city, shrine, inn, fortress, gate, room, or dungeon entrance.
Use relations such as LOCATED_IN to preserve hierarchy where it matters.
Build the map
- Open World Profile.
- Select the Map tab.
- Generate a map from the Codex or upload an image.
- Drag entities from the sidebar onto the map.
- Adjust marker icon, color, size, label, and short spatial description.
The map stores positions proportionally, so markers remain aligned when the image is shown at different sizes.
What to place
Prioritize entities whose current position affects play:
- Main Characters and important NPCs.
- Major Locations and Regions.
- Creatures or Items tied to a known place.
- Factions when a headquarters or territorial seat is useful.
Publishing requirements
Public publishing requires a map image and at least five distinct entities placed on the map. The pre-publish review may also warn when Characters, Creatures, or Items have no map position.
Good map descriptions
Marker descriptions should be spatial and concise.
Near the western border gates, ten kilometers from the salt road.
Do not use marker descriptions as a replacement for the entity's full lore.
